
George L. Flinner, 74 of Abingdon, died Friday, January 12, 2018 at his home.He was born on July 9, 1943, the son of Clinton and Dorothy Roach Flinner. They preceded him in death. He has two siblings.
He attended 1st through 4th grade at the Wyoming, Illinois Grade School. He attended 5th through 8th grade at West Jersey Jr. High School and then 9th through 12th grade at La Fayette High School, from where he graduated. He attended Western Illinois University from 1961 to 1965 and graduated with a Bachelor Degree in Education. He later earned his Master Degree in Education in 1973 there. He taught Biology, Science and Math at Abingdon High School from 1965 to 1994 and later worked at Hy Vee on National Boulevard in Galesburg for several years. He was a coin collector since the age of 16, an avid antique collector and enjoyed attending sales and auctions. He also enjoyed making candy and visiting at area nursing homes.
As he requested, private services will be held at a later date. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
