“The Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls’ season came to an end tonight as they lost to the Canton Little Giants 59-35 at the Macomb Regional Tournament in a semi-final game. Galesburg finishes their season with a 15-16 record.
“It was a pretty good 1st half, not a lot of scoring as the Streaks lead 11-9 at the end of the 1st quarter and went in up at the half, 21-20, but they got outscored 39-14 in that 2nd half. Canton’s big difference, at the end of the 3rd quarter and heading into the 4th quarter, the Little Giants went on a 17-0 run and that was the difference. The Streaks just 12-37 from the field and really struggled in that 2nd half, 8 for 9 from the free-throw line.
“It was Emily Meinert leading the way with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Yvonne Mixon just 6 points but another double digit rebound game, she had 14 rebounds. She also had 3 blocks, 3 steals, and 1 assist.
“The Little Giants led by Cassidy Fawcett 21 points, all in the 2nd half, including 11 for 12 from the free-throw line. She had 9 in a row in that 4th quarter, which was a big difference maker in the ball game.
“So the Streaks Girls’ season comes to an end with a 15-16 record as they fall to Canton 59-35.”
