CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago police say a suspect has been arrested in the stabbing death of a 2-year-old boy in the city’s Little Village neighborhood.
Department spokesman Anthony Guglielmi says police responding Wednesday to a call from relatives of the boy found the child in an upstairs room of a home. He had several stab wounds so severe the boy was nearly decapitated. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Guglielmi says the suspect fled the home after the boy was discovered. He adds the killing appears domestic related.
Guglielmi says in a tweet the “person of interest” was taken into custody by the Chicago agents of the FBI and Illinois State Police following a traffic stop in Kankakee County.
Relatives directed police to the suspect after relatives found the suspect evasive when he was asked about the child.
