Ex-Chicago area officer wants drug-ring conviction vacated

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (AP) – Attorneys for a former Schaumburg police officer who pleaded guilty in a drug-dealing ring are seeking to have his conviction vacated.

The (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald reports Terrance O’Brien’s attorneys say the request filed in DuPage County is based on new information they received after prosecutors dropped charges against another officer in the case. Prosecutors in February dropped charges against former Schaumburg officer John Cichy because a key informant was under criminal investigation.

A judge has 90 days to decide if O’Brien’s petition has merit.

Attorneys for a third officer, Matthew Hudak, also have filed a request seeking to have his conviction vacated. Hudak also pleaded guilty in the case.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin’s office has said the developments in Cichy’s case wouldn’t affect the other two officers’ pleas and sentences.
