Katelyn Anne Katzell, 21 of Abingdon, passed away at 10:59 a.m. Wednesday, April 25, 2018 in the operating room at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg, where she was being treated for injuries from an auto accident she was involved earlier that morning.She was born January 2, 1997 in Munster, Indiana, the daughter of Richard and Lori Barnett Katzell.
Katelyn is survived by her parents of Abingdon; her fiancé, Zachary Jacob of Galesburg; her grandmother, Susan Rogers of Abingdon; her grandfather, Joe Barnett of Savannah, Georgia; her half-brother, Micah Chavin in Indiana; and two nieces and a nephew, aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother, Hunter Katzell and her grandpa, John Rogers.
She graduated from Abingdon High School in 2015. She attended Carl Sandburg College. She currently worked as a bank teller for Mississippi Valley Credit Union at the Monmouth, Galesburg and Burlington, Iowa locations. She also worked at Subway on North Henderson Street in Galesburg. She enjoyed reading and online shopping, where she shopped for shoes and clothing. She enjoyed helping others and spending time with her nieces and nephew.
Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, April; 29, 2018 at the Abingdon United Methodist Church, 401 N. Washington St. in Abingdon. Rev. Nancy Wilson will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at the church. Cremation will be accorded after the service. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is in charge of arrangements.
