Mr. Roland E. Derry, 93, of Galesburg, died at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Galesburg Cottage Hospital.He was born November 21, 1924 in Smithfield, Illinois, the son of Lloyd and Elsie (McLaren) Derry. He married Emma J. Robinson on June 13, 1948 in Ipava, Illinois. She preceded him in death on June 30, 2011.
Surviving is his son, Rob A. Derry of Galesburg; a daughter, Marsha L. (Tommy) Grayson of Charleston, South Carolina; and three grandchildren, Cary T. Grayson III, Michael R. Grayson, and Jason Derry.
Roland served in the United States Marine Corps from 1943 to 1945 as a corporal.
He worked for the State of Illinois Unemployment Downstate Offices for over 30 years. He was a former member of the Jaycees and the Chamber of Commerce. He was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church. Roland graduated from Ipava High School and Bradley University.
Cremation will be accorded. A celebration of life visitation will be 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Shawn Smith officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Ipava Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Youth Baseball League.
