
A Galesburg man was transported to St. Francis Medial Center in Peoria after receiving multiple stab wounds in an apparent attack Sunday night.
Officers were dispatched to the 1400-block of Monmouth Boulevard at 11:50 for a stabbing that had just occurred. Once on scene they met with a 23-year-old victim who was found with blood on his face, the side of his neck, and wearing his work shirt which was soaked in what appeared to be his blood.
Police reports note that officers noticed blood on the stairs at the back of his residence as well as rear sidewalk outside. He told officers he had been stabbed several times. Eventually he became nauseous speaking with police and told them he had trouble breathing.
GHAS arrived on scene and transported him to Cottage Hospital.
Officers made contact with him at the hospital where he told police he had just gotten home from work and was walking up the stairs in his kitchen when he was attacked by three individuals with what he described as long hunting knives.
He also stated a fourth individual was standing by the back door on the stairs.
The 23-year-old told police he was able to reach for his baseball bat and defend himself, believing that he struck all four with the bat – causing the attackers to flee.
Reports indicate that he had been stabbed six times in his back, once in the triceps, twice in the right side of his chest, and twice in the right side of his neck. The severity of the wounds were not included in the reports.
He was later transported to OSF St. Francis’ trauma unit. His current condition is unknown at this time.
