
Louis B. “Papa Louie” Haynes, 87, of Galesburg, died at 5:19 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018 in OSF St. Mary Medical Center.He was born March 20, 1931, in Terre Haute, Indiana, the son of Clinton and India (Crothers) Haynes. He married Marilyn J. Taylor on January 6, 1952, in Galesburg. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marilyn; two daughters, Cherilyn Davis of Aurora, Illinois and Carla (Michael) Turner of West Hills, California; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a brother, Clinton T. (Christine) Haynes of Galesburg; a sister, Barbara (Robert) Woods of Terre Haute; a sister-in-law who was like a daughter, Shirley Wallace of Galesburg and her daughter, Courtney; two brothers-in-law, Robert (Helen) Taylor and William Taylor, both of Galesburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Cynthia Ingram in 2008; and two sisters, Norma Jean Graves and Charlotte Wells. Papa Louie worked tirelessly to provide for his family. He worked as a supervisor at Butler Manufacturing for 52 years before retiring. He worked mornings at the Rib Shack, cleaning and putting meat in the pit, for over 30 years, and he worked for the Gunther family as well. He graduated from Wiley High School in Terre Haute. He was a member of the Israel of God’s Church. Papa Louie enjoyed golfing, bowling, and shooting pool. He was a member of the Community Advancement Club. Louis served in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2018 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Harold Boyd officiating. Military honors will also be presented. Cremation will be accorded following the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
