CHICAGO (AP) – Authorities say a suburban Chicago police officer has shot a motorist who hit two squad cars after police followed a vehicle into the city’s Far South Side.
Chicago police say the shooting happened early Wednesday in Chicago’s Mount Greenwood neighborhood and the person who was shot was taken to a hospital. Information wasn’t immediately released on the person’s condition. Officers had followed the motorist from the suburb of Alsip.
A statement from Chicago police described what happened in their jurisdiction as an “aggravated assault.” Two Alsip officers also were taken to a hospital as a precaution.
John Murphy told WLS-TV that he was nearby with a friend when the shooting happened. He says he saw police pull over the car then heard several shots.
