
Jack Cathelyn, 80, of Galva, died at 4:36 a.m., Sunday October 21, 2018 at Courtyard Estates in Kewanee. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 25 at Church of Peace in rural Kewanee. Pastor Dan Craig will officiate. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 24 at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Additional visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. Inurnment will be at the Garden of Peace Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Church of Peace or to the donor’s choice.
He was born on November 29, 1937 in Bradford, Il, the son of Edward and Florence (Stewart) Cathelyn. He was first married to Donna DeSplinter and then later to Virgie Hazel Urish on April 29, 1988. She preceded him in death on July 10, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter Kamey Cathelyn, a brother, Charles in infancy, a brother, Eugene and two sisters, Mary Ann Moreno and Shirley Cathelyn. He is survived by a son Kevin Cathelyn of Braidwood, IL, a step daughter, Christine Urish of Des Moines, IA, three sisters, Patricia Sword (Chuck Langele) of Dixon, IL, Karen (Ken) Biddle of Boilingbrook, IL, and JoAnn Cathelyn (Don Stout) of Annawan, four grandchildren, Ashlie (William) Hamilton of Toulon, Jamie (Brittany) Schaab of Polo, IL, William Cathelyn of Robbins Air Force Base in Georgia and Edward Cathelyn of Braidwood, IL, and three great grandchildren Mackenzie and Weston Hamilton and Beau Schaab and several nieces and nephews.
Jack graduated from Annawan High School in 1955. He worked at Kewanee Boiler, was a car salesman, operated Jack’s Lawn Service and managed Cathelyn Apartments. He was a member of the Church of Peace, the Galva Lion’s Club and the Tri-County Garden Tractors Pulling Club. In earlier years, he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and had enjoyed riding horses and trail riding.
