
Dorothy M. Thomas, 88, of Monmouth, IL, formerly of Alexis, IL, passed away at 1:49 pm, Friday, October 19, 2018 at her home.She was born May 4, 1930 in Ft. Madison, IA, the daughter of Ivo and Virginia (Thannert) Hughes. Dorothy was raised and educated in Warren and Mercer Counties.
Dorothy married Melvin Dale Thomas in Burlington, IA on April 10, 1954 and he passed away April 5, 2005.
Dorothy worked as a daycare provider and did housekeeping services for many years. She also worked at Penny’s Country Kitchen in Alexis for several years. Dorothy enjoyed doing latch hook, hidden word books, and watching Cardinal birds. She collected trolls and owls. Dorothy was an avid Chicago Cubs, NASCAR, and Dale Earnhardt Jr, fan. Dorothy enjoyed watching the Price is Right, Jeopardy, and Wheel of Fortune. She was a member of the “1930’s Club”, and corresponded with other members all over the country. Most of all, she loved her cat, “Tommy Boy”.
Survivors include her sons, Dale (Debbie) Thomas of Aledo, IL, Brian Thomas of Galesburg, IL; her daughter, Bonnie (John) Williams of Monmouth, IL; 7 grandchildren, Chris (Anne) Thomas of Bettendorf, IA, Josh Chambers of Kansas City, MO, Heather Chambers of Monmouth, IL, Beth Thomas of Monmouth, IL, Ashley Thomas of Aledo, IL, Charisma Thomas of East Peoria, IL, Jimmy Thomas of Kirkwood, IL; 5 great grandchildren, Brooke Shafer, Avery Williams, Deane Thomas, Kate Thomas, Reed Thomas; and 2 sisters, Patricia Spence of Moline, IL, Jean Kaufman of New Boston, IL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Melvin Thomas, daughter, Gloria Jacobson, one great grandson, Andrew Williams, and 3 brothers, Bill Hughes, Don Hughes, and George Hughes.
Graveside Services will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at Alexis Cemetery, Alexis, IL. Visitation will be prior to the service from 9:30-11:00 a.m. at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Western Illinois Animal Rescue.
