The District 205 Board of Education will consider two tax levy options tonight and approve one of them. A tentative tax levy was approved at last month’s meeting with a 5-to-2 vote.
The tentative tax levy was over $22 million. Board member Wayne Statham asked what the tax levy would look like if they had a neutral levy request – as in requesting the same amount as the year before which was $20.5 million.
This month two tax levy’s are being presented. The first being the one approved in November, the other being a levy of $20.7 million, nearly equal to 2017.
Due to expected increases in the Equalized Assessed Value, the levy approved last month would keep the tax rate the same. The newer, lower, option would see the tax rate drop by about ten cents.
