The Galesburg Silver Streaks are now 2-0 at the Mattoon Holiday Tournament as they defeated Olney Tigers in pool play Thursday, 54-40. The Streaks are now 10-5 on the season.
The Streaks outscored Olney 25-15 in the first half, and went on to victory, as they got up by as many as 22 points in the second half. Olney got hot near the end, and hit five three-pointers in the fourth quarter. Olney hit six for the game.
Riley Jenkins lead the Streaks with 16 points and 11 assists, also two steals and two rebounds. She was also the Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game. Andrea Sampson had her second game with 11 points; she also had three rebounds and two assists. She hit four two’s and a three-pointer in the game. Daija Range pulled down seven rebounds for the Streaks, who out-rebounded Olney 32-24. The Streaks only turned the ball over seven times, and they forced 12 Olney turnovers.
The Streaks girls will play Friday at 10am as they take on Effingham St. Anthony. That game can be heard starting at 9:40am with the pregame, and a 10am tipoff, on 92.7 FM The Laser, as the Streaks boys will already be playing on WGIL from the Taylorville Holiday Tournament.
