Robert D. Grubb, Sr., age 83, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 12:50 A.M. on February 3, 2019 at the Knox county Nursing Home in Knoxville, Illinois.He was born on his grandparent’s farm on April 28, 1935 to Elmer and Hilda (Utzinger) Grubb.
He married Leona M. Flynn on February 12, 1955 at the Yates City Methodist Church in Yates City, Illinois.
He and Leona had three children: Rob Grubb, Liz (Terry) Peters, and Thomas Andrew (Donna) Grubb, all of Galesburg, Illinois. He was the grandfather to four grandsons, two step-granddaughters and eighteen great-grandchildren; he was also a brother to Richard (Donna) Grubb of Yates City, Gene Grubb of Norris, Illinois, and Betty Carroll of Atlanta, Georgia; and also a friend to Jo Staggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Rob Grubb; two brothers: Jim and Bennie; a brother-in-law, Jim Flynn; a sister-in-law, Glenna Thomas; two nephews: Terry Grubb and Jeff Grubb; and his best friend, Tom Staggs.
He was a lifelong farmer and mechanic. Most of this adult life he worked at Westbay Equipment Company, and then owned and operated his own tractor repair shop with his friend George Eastburg, until he retired.
Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on April 26, 2019 at the Yates City Cemetery, Yates City, Illinois with Chaplain Jordan Knight officiating. A celebration of life will be held at the Douglas Methodist Church following the services. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
