CHICAGO (AP) – The former superintendent of Gary Community Schools in Indiana is facing an investigation into her role as the head of a Chicago charter school.
The board of the Chicago Virtual Charter School placed CEO Cheryl Pruitt on paid administrative leave last week, pending the outcome of an internal investigation.
The (Northwest Indiana) Times reports that the board hasn’t disclosed details of that investigation.
The self-managed hybrid charter school in Chicago’s West Loop focuses on blended online and in-person instruction for K-12 students.
Pruitt became its CEO last year. She resigned as Gary Community Schools’ superintendent after an emergency manager took over the cash-strapped district last year.
Pruitt faces theft and official misconduct charges for allegedly double-billing the district for about $1,250 in luxury expenses at a 2016 Los Angeles conference.
