Thursday, July 23rd, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Walmart in Galesburg for a possible retail theft. Upon arrival, officers were notified by Walmart officials that a woman was in custody for switching the price tags on items before scanning them in the self-checkout section of the store. Officers observed the security footage and saw 26-year old Iesha Ortiz of Galesburg “scanning” the barcode of a television set that was actually the tag off a t-shirt. And after totaling the cost of the items in Ortiz’s cart – which did not contain a t-shirt – Ortiz was placed under arrest for retail theft over $300 with prior convictions for larceny. Ortiz was then transported to the Knox County Jail, and banned from all Walmart properties.
