Just after 8:30 pm on Friday, December 12th, Galesburg Police responded to Harley’s Pub on Grand Avenue in reference to a fight in progress. Upon arrival, police spoke with the victim who had visible injuries to his knee and there was visible damage to the entrance to Harley’s Pub. The victim told police that while outside the bar, he witnessed 41-year old Ryan Bird of Galesburg in a verbal altercation with a female subject and intervened. When the victim turned his back, Bird pushed him up against a wall and struck him several times in the chest. The victim then retreated to inside the bar and Bird repeatedly tried to enter the bar to continue fighting. According to police reports, witnesses confirmed the victim’s story. Police made contact with Bird and placed him under arrest. Back at the Public Safety Building Bird continued to deny the accusations. He was charged with Aggravated Battery in a Public Place and Criminal Damage to Property. Bird was recently arrested back on November 8th for Aggravated Battery in a Public Place at Monkey Business Bar.

Late Saturday afternoon Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 300 block of South Pearl Street for a report of a drunk driver striking a parked vehicle. Upon arrival, police observed a 2006 Chevrolet sedan without an Illinois registration parked sideways in a driveway while still running. The vehicle was actually pushing itself into the siding of the residence. The driver was passed out behind the wheel and the car’s stereo was at max volume. Officers opened the car door and woke the driver: 57-year old Charles Brand of Galesburg who lived at that address on Pearl. Officers discovered a bottle of alcohol sitting in the front seat, and Brand was heavily intoxicated. When officers attempted to conduct a field sobriety test, Brand had trouble standing and fell over a couple of times. Brand was then placed under arrest for Driving Under the Influence. Back at the Public Safety Building, Brand continually interfered with the Intoxilizer which would result in a refusal of the breath test. He was charged with DUI, Aggravated DUI, DUI Violation No Insurance, Driving on a Suspended License, and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. It was the second DUI arrest of Charles Brand in two months.
