Wanda M. Caves, 78, formerly of Galesburg, passed away at 4 a.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2020, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.

She was born April 9, 1942, in Camp Point, Illinois, the daughter of Henry and Irma (Lashbrook) Sharp. She married Ernest Eugene “George” Caves on October 15, 1966, at the Methodist Church, Western Illinois University in Macomb. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one stepdaughter, M. Diane Caves, and one step-grandson, Daniel Caves.

Wanda is survived by her stepchildren, Alan (Tammy) Caves of Alexis, Brian (Diane Nalley) Caves of Gilson, and Luann (Gary) Johnson of Dahinda; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews and their families.

She worked as a secretary at Moorman Feed Company near Quincy and after her marriage, she worked as a cashier at Walmart in Galesburg. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Galesburg and sang in the choir. She volunteered at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. She played the piano and loved gospel music. She also enjoyed shopping and playing the lottery.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, private services will be held Monday, December 21, 2020, at the Abingdon Cemetery. Rev. James Reynolds from OFS Hospice will officiate. There will be no visitation. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Abingdon Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
