
Work is being done on Interstate 74 between Galesburg and Peoria Friday night.
The Illinois Department of Transportation says that the periodic full closure of I-74 over French Creek about a mile west of the Peoria/Knox County Line beginning at around 10:00 pm.
Work is expected to last until 6:00 am Saturday as crews place new bridge beams. Electronic message signs will be in place to remind motorists and Illinois State Police will be present prior to any closings.
Drivers are asked to avoid the area if feasible, using alternate routes, and to pay close attention to changing conditions and signs in the work zones as well as obey posted speed limits and avoid using mobile devices.
Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,300 miles of highway and 8.4 million square feet of bridge decking as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program, which is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation.
Year One included approximately $2.7 billion of improvements statewide on 1,706 miles of highway, 128 bridges, and 228 additional safety improvements.
