On Wednesday, December 16th around 7:30 pm, Galesburg Police were dispatched to Circle K on East Main Street for an armed robbery call. Employees told police that a black male subject with dreadlocks approached the counter to pay for an energy drink, then told the employee, “Give me the money down there.” The subject was holding a large object in his sweatshirt pocket – attempting to pass the object off as a gun. According to police reports, the employee saw a long cord hanging down and could tell it was a power drill. The employee told the subject that she couldn’t open the drawer without a manager, and then hit the panic button behind the counter. The subject then took a bottle of Captain Morgan and departed the store before heading westbound towards the John Sibley Underpass. The employee told GPD the subject also left behind a bottle of mouthwash and appeared to be under the influence of drugs. After meeting with police, the power drill was located outside on the west side of the store. Officers noticed the drill had been spray-painted black recently. The investigation is ongoing.
