One dead, two injured in fatal McDonough County crash

A 75-year-old Hancock County man was killed in a two-vehicle crash to the west of Macomb Thursday afternoon.

The Illinois State Police say that at around 3:33, a GMC pickup truck traveling south on McDonough County Road 600 East failed to yield for a Peterbilt Truck Tractor Trailer Combo traveling east on Illinois Route 336 and struck the semi.

Killed in the crash was the driver of the pickup truck, 75-year-old Gary Melvin of Augusta, Illinois.

Two passengers in the pickup were transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries. They were identified as Colchester residents: 18-year-old Levi Bontrager and 21-year-old Vernon Bontrager.

The driver of the semi, 69-year-old Wayne Cameron of Macomb was not listed as injured.

ISP is continuing to investigate the crash and charges are pending.
