Cases of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) continue to decline in Knox County.

On Tuesday, the Knox County Unified Command announced 47 new cases were reported between Friday, January 22, 2021, through Monday, January 25, 2021, bringing the total positive cases to 4,788.

New positive cases were confirmed in 18 females and 29 males. The age ranges were not released.

Knox County has seen a decline since the turn of the year in new cases as Region Two, which includes Knox, Warren, Henry, Rock Island, McDonough, Fulton, Stark, Peoria, and Mercer Counties, has moved to Phase 4 of Governor J.B. Pritzker’s reopening plan after key metrics improved. Those metrics include Intensive Care Unit bed availability, the 7-day rolling average of new cases.

According to the Illinois Department of Public Health, Knox County’s 7-day rolling average of positive tests was last reported on Saturday to be 2.5 with the county averaging 1.9 new daily positive tests.

Phase 4 means more loosening restrictions, museums can now operate at 25 percent capacity, indoor recreation facilities can operate at less than 50 customers or 50 percent capacity, and meetings and social events can be held with a limit of 50 people or 50 percent capacity.

The Knox County Health Department is holding a Free COVID-19 Testing event on Saturday, January 30, and Sunday, January 31,  from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Knox County Fairgrounds. It is open to all Illinois residents, regardless of symptoms. Please bring your identification.

Testing is also available at the Knox Community Health Center and is open to anyone, regardless of symptoms or other criteria. The Health Center can be reached at 309-344-2225 to schedule an appointment.
