A Galesburg man is facing even more charges following an early Sunday morning arrest where he refused to identify himself. 29-year old Marcelus Goodwin of Galesburg was taken into custody just after midnight on Sunday, January 24th, after police were called to the Grand Tap in Galesburg. Police were dispatched to The Grand Tap on Grand Avenue after a silent alarm was triggered. Officers arrived and met with the bar’s owner who told police a male subject, who since departed, was wanting to fight other bar patrons after losing his cell phone. Officers were told the subjects were in the parking lot, and one of them was armed. In the parking lot, Officers observed Goodwin stash two .38 caliber revolvers under a car in the parking lot during the argument with two other men. As police took possession of the firearms, Goodwin fled on foot only to be apprehended a short time later. Goodwin repeatedly refused to answer officers’ questions and identify himself. It wasn’t until the next day that officers got confirmation of Goodwin’s identity through a Fond Du Lac County police report out of Wisconsin. Goodwin was charged with: Armed Violence, Obstructing Justice, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a firearm with defaced markings, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, and Resisting a Peace Officer.

NOTE: This story has been edited to reflect that there was not a bar fight but a patron that was potentially going to fight.
