The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team moved to 4-0 on the season Tuesday night, defeating the Sterling Golden Warriors 59-47.
The Streaks started off well early, up 16-11 at the end of the first quarter, and led 28-13 at halftime. Sterling fought their way back into it starting late in the third quarter. But, the Streaks still held on for the win, despite getting outscored 22-10 in the 4th quarter.
What a game for Riley Jenkins. She was close to a quadruple-double, scoring 26 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, and several steals. Jenkins was also 12-for-12 from the free throw line, had four three-pointers, and was five-for-nine from the field. She was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game. Lauren Livingston scored 15 points for the Streaks, including three three-pointers. GHS was 15-for-16 from the free-throw line, and hit eight three-pointers for the game.
The Borum sisters — Breelyn and Brooklyn — led the way for Sterling. Brooklyn had 23 points, and Breelyn had 19. Only two other players scored for Sterling. The team was seven-for-17 from the free-throw line.
It was a good night for the Streaks. They are now 1-0 in the Western Big 6, 4-0 overall. They play again Friday night at Moline. Tom Meredith and Erik Gibson will have the action starting at 7:06pm on 92.7 FM The Laser.
