Galesburg Silver Streaks Boys Basketball vs. Moline Maroons

The Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season Friday night, with a nail-biting overtime win over the Moline Maroons at the GHS Fieldhouse 88-84.

The Silver Streaks had a big lead in the first half, 23 points at one point; it was 21 at halftime, 47-26.  And then, the Maroons started the comeback.  They went on a little 13-4 run to start the second half, cutting the lead down to seven by the end of the third quarter.  Galesburg hung on and kept Moline at bay, building the lead back up to double digits at one point in the fourth quarter.  But, Moline just kept chipping away and battling back, tying the game with three seconds to go in regulation on a Kyle Taylor layup.  Eric Price‘s half-court shot went off the back iron and sent the game into overtime, tied at 76.

Then, Demarco Harden became our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game, with a huge three-point basket after Moline had taken the lead by two in the overtime, putting the Streaks up three, part of an 8-0 run that put the Streaks up 86-80.  Still, Moline had a chance, down two with two seconds to go.  But, Alec Ponder‘s length-of-the-court pass went into the netting up in the rafters of the fieldhouse, which led to a turnover.  Jeremiah Babers was fouled on the ensuing possession and knocked down two free-throws, and that resulted in the four-point Galesburg win.

Eric Price led the Streaks offensively, but fouled out of the game.  He had 24 points and 12 rebounds.  Harden finished with 20 points, his career high.  Alex Egipciaco also in double figures with 14, as was his brother Dre, with 13.

The Streaks freshmen lost by four, 61-57.  The sophomores also lost to Moline.

Galesburg gets back at it Saturday night, at Geneseo.  You can hear the varsity contest starting at approximately 7:10pm on WGIL.
