The fourth quarter was key in a back-and-forth game Tuesday night between the Galesburg Silver Streaks boys basketball team and the Rock Island Rocks at GHS. Ultimately, the Rocks prevailed, 70-60, putting up 22 fourth quarter points and outlasting the Streaks, giving GHS its first loss on the season and in the Western Big 6 Conference.
The two teams battled all night long, with 11 lead changes and 11 ties, before Rock Island took the lead for the final time, 54-53, and outscoring the Streaks 18-7 down the stretch to win the game by ten. The two teams are now tied in the Western Big 6 at 5-1.
Amarion Nimmers led the Rocks with 29 points. Jordan Rice had 19 points, 18 of those in the second half.
Eric Price led the Streaks with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Dre Egipciaco had 14. Kyleb Meadows finished with just three points, but he was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game. He had a key steal in the Rock Island front court when the Rocks were starting to make their 4th quarter run. Meadows hit a big three to tie the game for the Streaks in that quarter.
The GHS Freshmen lost by two, while the Sophomores won in overtime by one.
The Streaks will play Geneseo at home Friday night. You can hear the varsity contest starting at approximately 7:06pm on 93.7 FM and 1400 AM WGIL.
