Galesburg Silver Streaks Girls Basketball @ Rock Island Rocks

The Galesburg Silver Streaks girls basketball team’s perfect season came to an end Tuesday night, at the hand of the Rock Island Rocks in Rock Island, 56-51.

Rock Island jumped out to a big lead early, 11-3.  The Streaks outscored the Rocks 16-11 in the second quarter for a 27-24 halftime lead.  The two teams played even in the third quarter, 15 points apiece, with the Streaks up at the end of the third quarter, 42-39.  But the Rocks were good at the free throw line, going 10 for 11 in the 4th quarter.  They hit 14 of 16 in the game.  The Streaks struggled from the free throw line, hitting only 10 for 19.  Galesburg hit five three-pointers in the game.  Other than that, things were mostly even.  Turnovers hampered the Streaks, with 20 for the game versus Rock Island’s 14.  The two teams were near even in rebounds and shooting percentage.

Galesburg was led by Riley Jenkins with 16 points, five rebounds, five assists, and a block.  Lauren Livingston had 11 points, with six rebounds.  Freshman Kiarra Kilgore (pictured) was our Dave’s Autobody Crunch Time Player of the Game with nine points, five rebounds, and an assist.

The Streaks fall to 8-1 on the season, and 5-1 in the Western Big 6.  The Rocks are now 4-2 in the conference and overall.

Next up, the Streaks will be on the road Friday night at Geneseo.  You can hear the varsity game starting at approximately 7:10pm on 92.7 FM The Laser.
