Residents in Galesburg, Monmouth, and Knoxville have been finding plastic bags filled with rocks and containing letters with “racist and divisive language and content”.
Those words are from a Galesburg Police Department press release.
Monmouth Police have also sent out a release.
They call the materials found at Monmouth residences is “propaganda material on COVID-19 with reference to White Lives Matter.”
They also say the handouts in Monmouth included various websites that sell “untested medical supplements.”
Galesburg Police say they’ve responded to numerous reports of bags of rock with these types of letters being left at Galesburg residences.
Police are asking the community for any security footage of someone leaving the letters.
GPD says that they and the City of Galesburg strongly denounce this type of behavior, adding that this is an “inclusive community and we strive to treat all people with dignity and respect.”
There were also reports of similar contents being left at homes in Leroy, Illinois on Thursday.
