Tuesday, March 9th, Galesburg Police observed a light blue Buick Century traveling down East North at a high rate of speed. The area had numerous construction workers and equipment present. GPD attempted to catch up to the vehicle – a construction worker pointed police south where the vehicle was spotted again turning off Blaine Avenue back onto East North Street. The suspect vehicle weaved in and out of traffic and ignored numerous stop signs while speeding throughout the neighborhood which eventually forced police to discontinue the pursuit for the sake of public safety. The vehicle’s stereo and bass system could be heard from blocks away. Fifteen minutes later, dispatch advised the Buick’s owner reported it stolen. The owner told police he had an appointment at Professional Window Tinting and Custom Work that day, but the car was stolen from the parking lot. GPD called Professional Window Tinting where employees said the owner did not have an appointment, and that they had tinted the windows and installed a bass system months ago. Since the vehicle’s owner lied about the appointment, police have reason to believe he is aware of who has his vehicle. The investigation is ongoing.
