Just before 1:30 this morning, Galesburg Police conducted a traffic stop on a Chevy sedan without a front registration plate on Mulberry Street. The vehicle pulled into Grand Liquor where officers issued the driver a warning for the missing registration plate and for not signaling a turn. During the interaction with the driver, the passenger: 26-year old Jonathan Carter of Galesburg littered in front of an officer and refused to identify himself. Carter was being uncooperative – at one point rolling his window up while officers were questioning him, but he eventually stepped out of the vehicle. When officers informed him that he would be arrested for Obstruction, Carter turned around, placed his hands behind his back, bent over, and said, “Take me to jail.” Carter was then detained and taken to the Public Safety Building. An open container of alcohol was located under his seat in the car. At the station, Carter continually refused to identify himself but was later identified after being transported to the Knox County Jail. He was charged with a Class 4 Felony for Obstruction of Justice, Resisting a Peace Officer, Illegal Transportation of Alcohol, Littering, and had a Knox County Warrant for driving on a revoked license.
