Violent Crime task force makes first series of arrests

The new Violent Crime Task Force, created through a partnership with the Galesburg Police Department, Knox County Sheriff’s Department, the Knox County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the Springfield Division of the FBI, have made their first series of arrests.

A week after their announcement, four individuals have been arrested. WGIL previously reported on 25-year-old Davon C. Barber, arrested after a traffic stop where he was charged with being in possession of a firearm with defaced markings and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The task force says they’ve also arrested 21-year-old Treamon L. Turner for aggravated assault, unlawful use of weapons, and intimidation, 27-year-old Jarvis Lews for manufacture/delivery of cannabis over 500 grams, possession of cannabis over 500 grams, and obstructing justice, and 24-year-old Orlando Hernandez for aggravated battery with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

In addition to the arrests, the police department seized two illegally possessed firearms and approximately five pounds of cannabis.

Chief Russ Idle says that he hopes that the arrests and any future arrests will help make the Galesburg community safer for the citizens.
