The Knox-Galesburg Symphony has found a permanent home.
KGS Executive Director Lucas Wood announced Friday that they have purchased a pair of buildings at 95 and 107 N. Seminary Street in Galesburg.
The buildings are across the street from InnKeeper’s Fresh Roasted Coffee, and were originally home to the Knox County Farm Bureau and Knox County Oil Company.
Wood says that The Orpheum is still going to be the primary place for KGS performances once concerts like that are approved to resume.
But he adds, this gives the orchestra a place to call “home” for the next generations of classical music lovers.
He says there’s often confusion about whether the Orpheum is the KGS’ home base.
Wood also says that he and the Board have taken the time in the past year to evaluate how KGS can become more “sustainable” and engaging to new audiences, and also to fully embody being a “partner in the community.”
KGS was able to acquire these properties with the support of several very generous contributors for $360,000.
Besides this giving the Symphony a place to call home, Wood says the building will act as an accessible location for administrative offices, community events, and more.
