The Galesburg High School Administration is planning for a much more traditional graduation ceremony.

Last year, the district was forced to change graduation because of the Coronavirus pandemic and go with a more virtual route.

GHS Principal Jeff Houston told the school board that the plan will see graduation taking place at F&M Bank Stadium.

“We will have one ceremony at 2 o’clock and be able to get everyone in the stadium with all seniors be given four tickets,” Houston told board members. “[Eric Matthews] and I have been out to the stadium several times, to look at the occupancy of the stadium, and trying to utilize the space that we can.”

While COVID guidelines are a concern to Houston, he says the biggest concern is the weather.

“I’m more worried about the weather than I am the CDC guidelines. We have a contingency plan in place to move that to a virtual ceremony if need be. That announcement would come about 48 hours in advance if we needed to do that.”

The ceremony will be held Sunday, May 30.
