Robert C. Munson, 76, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 1:31 pm, Friday, June 4, 2021, at his home.

Bob was born September 8, 1944, in Little York, IL, the son of Robert Clifford and Wilma Alice (Willets) Munson. He was raised and educated in Little York, graduating from Little York High School in 1963.

Bob served with the Army Reserves, as SGT E5, from August 1965 to June 1971.

Bob married Latisha Jane Glasgow, in Little York, IL, on December 4, 1965, and they have remained close throughout the years.

Bob began working with Munson Trucking in 1963, at the age of 19. Bob and his brother, Courtney, became partners when they incorporated Munson Transportation. They later sold Munson Transportation to Heartland Express in 1994. Subsequently, he began and currently operated RCM Transport & Construction. Bob also operated Monmouth Warehouse and Munson Farms.

Bob was raised Methodist and preferred to exercise his faith through action. He never met a stranger and opened his home to everyone. What he enjoyed most of all was helping others no matter the circumstance. This is what he will be remembered for the most.

Besides work, his family was most important; Bob’s work ethic is unrivaled, and he is a legend when it comes to getting things done.

Survivors include his children, Jamie (Jamie) Munson of Peoria Heights, IL; Amy Munson of Monmouth, IL; one granddaughter, Olivia Munson, of Peoria Heights, IL; 2 stepchildren, Marty Wilson, of Monmouth, IL, and Nick Hager, of Berwick, IL; his siblings, Courtney Munson, of Burlington, IA and Lolla (James) Ballard, of Monmouth, IL; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to the children listed above, Bob was a father figure to many children throughout the years.

Bob enjoyed riding his Harley, boating, dancing, and drag racing, but most of all he was passionate about heavy equipment. He was a collector of all things BIG, particularly classic cars, antique tractors, and heavy machinery. He was a mechanical genius and known for creative solutions to everyday mechanical problems; one such example involved improvements to Freightliner truck suspension design.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
