The Mayor of Rockford is reportedly considering running for Cheri Bustos seat in the U.S. Congress that she’ll retire from at the end of this term. Tom McNamara says he hasn’t made a final decision but tells WREX-TV in Rockford he’s “absolutely considering the position. He says, “We as elected officials we’re here to make a difference in residents lives, and I think we can do a better job of that.” McNamara said he’s getting a “strong push” by local, state and national Democrats to run for the seat. A spokeswoman for Republican Esther-Joy King, who has already launched a campaign to run for the seat, mocks that push McNamara talks about. King’s Director of Operations Emily Tuttle says in an email that “Democrats want to put money and resources behind a liberal Pelosi ‘Yes-Man’” McNamara has been Rockford’s Mayor since 2017 and is the youngest son of former Rockford mayor John McNamara, who served from 1981-1989.
