Elaine R. Johnson, 89, of Altona, went to heaven Sunday, August 15, 2021.

Elaine was born August 19, 1931, in Downing, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Martha Opal (Phelps) Rood. She married Glenn F. Johnson on February 11, 1956. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2008.

She is survived by her son, Mark (Helen) Johnson of Galva; grandson, Matthew (Jiliane) Johnson of Altona; granddaughter, Kimberly Johnson (Mitchell Kitterman) of Galva; four great-grandchildren, Ava, Lauren, Wravenna, and Nathaniel Johnson; and two sisters, Melba (George) Onion of Abingdon and Barbara (John) Myers of Arkansas. Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Nathaniel Johnson, and four sisters, Wanda, Corene, Madeline, and Willa Dean.

Elaine and Glenn lived in Altona, where together they raised livestock, farmed, and owned Glenn Johnson Trucking. Elaine worked at the local John Deere Dealership in Oneida before attending the Carl Sandburg College Nursing Program, graduating in 1973.   Elaine worked as a nurse for several years before accepting a position with the State of Illinois as a nursing home surveyor. She later retired.

Elaine was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Altona, where she served on the church board and many committees. She had a passion for gardening and loved to sit on her patio and read while enjoying her flowers. The one thing Elaine cherished most was her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 20, 2021, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Altona.  The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, at the church. Rev. Timothy Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Altona. Memorial contributions may be made to the Walnut Grove Progressors 4-H Club.
