Robert L. Miller passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at the age of 68, in his hometown of Galesburg, with his family at his side. His battle with COPD showed his courage in facing life’s challenges with strength and dignity. Bob endured and stayed strong until the end.
Bob was born March 29, 1953, in Moline, the son of Robert Eugene and Carma Lee (Mason) Miller. He met the love of his life, Cynthia Van Dell, through a friend. They were married on February 16, 1974, at the former Advent Christian Church. And the rest, they say, is history. Together they have two children, Robby and Amy.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cindy; children, Robby (Marcie) Miller of East Galesburg and Amy Miller-West of Galesburg; five grandchildren, Austyn, Dylan, Cameron, Haleigh, and Cosette; two great-grandchildren, Nicole and Carson; and his beloved dog, Chloe. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Ronnie; a brother, Rodney; and a sister, Melinda Ackman.
Bob was a mechanic. He had worked at Harvey Brothers, Karmark, and retired from Glenn’s Radiator. He was very passionate about race cars and building racing engines. He started racing in Knoxville in 1985. In addition to spending time with his dog, he also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and fishing.
After graduating from Knoxville High School, Bob served in the United States Air Force.
