The race to replace Jeff Standard as Sheriff in Fulton County is heating up.
Thursday, two candidates announced their campaigns for the position of Fulton County’s top cop.
10-year-veteran of the Sheriff’s Office, Detective Sergeant Jon Webb announced his candidacy for the position in an email to WGIL.
Webb works in the Investigation’s Division for the department where he investigates felony crimes such as theft, burglary, sexual assaults, murder, and other violent crimes; and he is the Crime Stoppers coordinator. He has also been a member of the West Central Illinois Special Response Team for the last five years.
The other candidate for the position, 17-and-a-half year veteran Senior Deputy Ryan Maricle announced his campaign to a large gathering of supporters in Canton this week.
He has been with the department since 2004 and has been serving for the last seven years on the Illinois State Police Drug Task Force, working both State and Federal drug and gun cases alongside the DEA and FBI.
Maricle is highly decorated for his cases and making a significant impact on the communities he serves. He was awarded the honor of Illinois Sheriffs’ Association 2020 Deputy of the Year award.
Standard announced this week that he was retiring at the end of his fourth term, choosing not to seek a fifth.
