Knox County reporting 133 new COVID cases in the last week

The Knox County Unified Command reported 133 new cases of Coronavirus Disease, or COVID-19, between Tuesday, August 24, 2021, and Monday, August 30, 2021.

That brings the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic has hit 6,148, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.

The IDPH’s COVID-19 Community Transmission Map indicates that Knox County’s level of community transmission remains high. Areas of high transmission are considered by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention to be those with greater than or equal to 100 cases per 100,000 people over a seven-day period.

IDPH says that Knox County has administered 48,728 COVID-19 vaccines and 24,067 county residents have been fully vaccinated. This makes up 48.03 percent of our population fully vaccinated. Statewide, 52.9 percent of the population has been fully vaccinated.

Hospitalizations number have improved in some regions but still remain a concern. Currently, Region two, which includes Knox and the surrounding counties, has only 17 percent of ICU beds available.

The Knox County Unified Command continues to offer vaccine clinics throughout the community. The Health Department offers the two-dose Moderna and the one dose, Janssen, to those 18 years of age and up and the two-dose Pfizer vaccine to those 12 and up.

Individuals under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. Parental consent must be signed before the vaccine can be administered.

Third dose vaccines are available to those who are immunocompromised at ALL Knox County Unified Vaccine Clinics and events.
