Sunday, September 26th around 6:00pm, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 200 block of Cottage Avenue for reports of a suspicious person. Officers met with the caller who said an unknown male subject was seen going through her garage. She had to tell the man to leave repeatedly before he finally went into a supposedly uninhabited residence on Cottage Avenue. Officers made contact with the subject: 25-year old Cody Mason. Initially, Mason gave officers a fake date of birth and a fake last name. When officers asked Mason to retrieve an ID, he became increasingly aggressive and uncooperative. He was eventually detained. While informing him that he’d be arrested for Trespassing, Mason spit in the face of an officer and continued to make threatening comments to police. Ultimately, Mason was charged with Criminal Trespassing, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Obstruction of Identification, and Threatening a Public Official.
