Galesburg Police on Wednesday, November 24th responded to an apartment in the 400 block of Soangetaha Road for a well-being check. Upon arrival, officers met with a male who said his intoxicated girlfriend had struck him in the face and she was crying in a back bedroom. Officers then made contact with an intoxicated 24-year old Keely Wheeler who was extremely agitated and damaging items inside the apartment – throwing items and breaking a window at one point. Wheeler attempted to strike the male subject as well as officers numerous times and she was detained. After speaking with everyone involved, Wheeler was informed she was going to be arrested for Domestic Battery. Wheeler became even more enraged and began making threats at officers. While she was being escorted to a patrol car, Wheeler kicked in the front door of another apartment causing the door to swing open. It’s unclear what Wheeler was initially upset about or how the fight started. She was transported to the Knox County Jail and in addition to the Domestic Battery charge, Wheeler was charged with Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer and Attempted Criminal Damage to Property.
