Five puppies were rescued from a structure fire on East Third Street Tuesday afternoon.
According to a Wednesday press release, a dozen firefighters from all three Galesburg fire stations responded to the house fire at around 2:07. The property sits next to the Carl Sandburg State Historic Site.
Upon arrival, smoke was showing from the west side of the single-story home and Battalion Chief Derek Perry established command, with the Central Station crew making entry into the home and to the basement to extinguish the flames.
Fire crews then located the pups. No injuries were reported and the fire is currently under investigation by the Galesburg Fire and Police Departments.
