Galesburg Police responded to First Midwest Bank on East Main Street Wednesday afternoon (12/22) for a report of a male subject attempting to cash a stolen check. The subject, 32-year old Nickolas Reed of Galesburg told police he had done yard work recently for the person on the account and wanted to cash the $190 check. Bank employees however noticed an alert on the account and officers called the account owner. The owner told police the account belonged to her deceased husband. She also said her home had been burglarized recently and checks were stolen. Officers then noticed the check was signed with yesterday’s date, according to police reports. Reed was then placed under arrest and charged with Forgery and Possession of Stolen Property. Reed was just arrested on Tuesday for Criminal Trespassing after refusing to leave the Knox College Campus and allegedly tampering with an ATM machine.
