Galesburg Police Monday (January 3rd), just before 11:00 pm responded to the 1100 block of Lancaster Street for a report of shots being fired. Officers met with the male caller who said he heard approximately five shots from a firearm directed, he believed, toward a cornfield. The caller told police he heard the shots, went outside, and shined a spotlight on the vehicle yelling “get the hell out of here” according to police reports. Officers located four shell casings: three .40 caliber casings and one 9mm casing. Earlier on Monday, GPD responded to a residential burglary in the 900 block of South Henderson Street. The building serves a dual purpose: a residence and a towing business. The owner called the police after discovering the business had been burglarized. The only items the owner found missing were a .40 caliber handgun and a 9mm handgun. The investigation is ongoing, it isn’t clear yet if the shots heard later last night were from the stolen guns.
