
James H. “Jim” Maher, 76, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 4:20 am, Friday, December 31, 2021, at his home.
Jim was born January 13, 1945, in Muscatine, IA the son of Frank and Marylnn (Keeler) Maher. He was raised and educated in LeClaire, IA, and graduated from Bettendorf High School in Bettendorf, IA in 1963.
Jim served with the United States Navy from 1963-1968 as a Submarine Enginemen on the USS Sterlet, stationed in Hawaii.
Jim married Gail Robbins on May 10, 1964, in Eldridge, IA and she survives.
Jim worked at Caterpillar for 35 years as a supervisor before retiring in 2001.
He was a member of the Pontiac American Legion. He enjoyed fishing with his brothers, hunting, woodworking, and boating. Jim loved being around his family and spending time with his grandchildren. He was always known to have a smile and to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Survivors include his wife, Gail Maher of Monmouth, IL; his two children, Theresa “Terri” (Perry) Springer of Monmouth, IL and James “Todd” Maher of Chenoa, IL; his 6 grandchildren, Ryan (Tonya) Springer, Danny Springer, Colby Springer, Amber Springer, Allie (Ben) Highland, and Crystal (Hunter) Hilt; 6 great-grandchildren; his brother, Edward, (Valarie) Maher of Bettendorf, IA; his 3 sisters, Marilyn Baer of Muscatine, IA, Janice (Randy) Lownes of Canyon City, CO and Irene (Bill) Lande of Rockvale, CO; sister in law, Janet Maher of Davenport, IA; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Charles Maher and Benjamin Maher.
Funeral services will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2022, at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth. Cremation will take place following the services. Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 1:00-3:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Pontiac American Legion, or OSF Hospice and sent to the funeral home.
