VNA Community Services and KCCDD are teaming up for the third annual “Put Your Heart Into It” Fundraiser this month.
The month-long event brings visibility to the needs of seniors in Knox County who battle food insecurity and help raise funds for the cause.
Executive Director Michael Bennet says that the VNA currently serves over 170 food-insecure seniors, taking an average of $1,500 to feed each in a year.
Our list has more than tripled in size since pre-pandemic and there is no sign of slowing. It doesn’t take long to add up. So, February has been our big push to help bolster our coffers and get folks talking about the food insecure seniors of Knox County.”
The month-long event will see different businesses donating portions of sales on select days to the cause.
For example, Jimmy’s Pizza will donate two dollars for every large pizza sold on Friday, February 4. The Bar 65 will commit to donating a dollar for every Blackberry Hot Toddy sold on the 17 and is also allowing staff and board members for VNA to guest bartend from 5-9 pm. Hy-Vee on East Main, throughout the month, will be donating a dollar for every half-dozen iced cutout cookies sold through the month.
Other partnerships include Lim’s Ice Cream on February 18 where every double scoop sold will see a dollar donated to the cause and Guacamole Grill will offer 10 percent of all evening sales during the night of February 23.
The VNA is committed to helping seniors get connected to helpful pathways of service. Anyone 60 or older who is experiencing any barrier to proper nutrition is encouraged to call the VNA today and get set up with their home-delivered meals program.
