Damage to a duplex in town was estimated to be around $10,000.

Firefighters in Galesburg responded to the 300-block of North Broad Street Wednesday morning at around 4:36 for a structure fire at a duplex.

According to the City, 11 fire personnel were on duty from the three stations and, on arrival, smoke was showing from the two-story duplex with smoke detectors alarming.

All tenants had evacuated the structure and acting Battalion Chief Justin Moffitt established command with Central station crews making entry with an attack line and quickly extinguished the kitchen fire that had spread to cabinets above.

Fire crews also had to remove heavy volumes of smoke from the structure.

No injuries were reported and fire investigators determined the fire was unintentional, caused by unattended cooking.

The residents were assisted by the American Red Cross who arrived on the scene.
