Deer hunting totals down in throughout Illinois

Knox County hunters were not nearly as successful this year bagging deer as they were last year.

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources released preliminary numbers Friday from all the deer hunting seasons for 2021-22.

Hunters in the County of Knox took in 2,243 deer during those seasons. That’s down from 2,497 that were harvested last year.

Numbers were down throughout the area and state.

Fulton County hunters, usually among the most successful in the state, brought in 3,731 deer. That is down from 4,105 last year.

Hunters in Warren County brought in 740 deer, down from 814 the year before.

Hunters in Illinois took in 147,004 deer during the 2021-22 archery and firearm hunting seasons that concluded last month. That’s down from 162,575 last year.
