Galesburg Police on Saturday responded to the 1600 block of North Broad Street for a possible domestic disturbance. A male suspect, 37-year-old Nicholas Becker, was the subject of another investigation, and also police received calls to the residence earlier in the day regarding Becker. Upon arrival, officers could hear a woman screaming and kicked-in the front door. Inside they found a female victim laying on the floor with Becker standing over her, according to police reports. He was taken into custody. The victim told police she believed Becker was about to sexually assault her when officers first knocked and then held his hand over her mouth and held her down so she couldn’t come to the door. Police believed Becker was under the influence at the time and he was also in possession of the victim’s phone.
Becker was taken to the Knox County Jail. He was charged with Sexual Assault, Home Invasion, Aggravated Battery, Unlawful Restraint, Interfering with a Report of Domestic Battery, and Violation of an Order of Protection.
