A Monmouth man will be back in a Warren County courtroom on Tuesday, April 19, for his trial on numerous drug and weapons charges.

According to Warren County State’s Attorney Thomas Siegel, 24-year-old Dwight Washington is facing charges that include Armed Violence, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, and Possession of over 5,000 grams of Cannabis with Intent to Distribute.

Washington was arrested on Friday, April 8, after law enforcement executed a search warrant of a residence in the 500-block of South 2nd Street in Monmouth.

Siegel says that the U.S. Postal Service alerted the State’s Attorney’s office to suspicious shipments to the address and based on that information, a search warrant was prepared.

Washington allegedly attempted to flee from the residence as the warrant was executed and was caught after a short foot pursuit. Inside the residence, a loaded 9mm pistol with a laser sight, spare magazines — including a 50-round drum, and over 5,000 grams of cannabis were found.

Washington is not allowed to possess firearms as a condition of felony probation. If convicted of the most serious charges, Washington faces a minimum of 21 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

He was booked in the Warren County Jail on a $30,000 cash bond.
